You can sleep better - here's how (plus pics of a gorgeous ferment!)

I’m feeling pretty balanced these days, because I’m getting good sleep.

(You can too.  Scroll down to skip to sleep solutions!)

I’m grateful - it means I can do more of the stuff I want to do.... Like make a ferment every week this year.

Yep!

Seriously, when my body and brain are feeling good, I’m better at managing my time.  I’m better at prioritizing, and finishing what I start, and starting instead of procrastinating.  Which equals more time for the things I love to do!

Ferments so far:

  1.  simple sauerkraut

  2.  coconut yogurt (using two different starters, so we can compare)

  3.  west african sweet potato - first time I’ve tried this recipe from the Shockey’s awesome book “Fermented Vegetables,” and I hear it’s a winner... I’ll let you know :)

Among other things, I’m also working on a very exciting new project... I really want to tell you about it, and as soon as I can, I will!  (And yes, it’s all about supporting children’s (and mom’s!) lives with awesome gut health, so stay tuned!)

If you read my last email, you know I was up at midnight reading to my little boy on our front porch swing in a snow storm not too long ago.  Well, he woke up quite a few times with bad dreams this week, from the very same book we were reading!  Oops... It’s back on the shelf for another year, and we’re all sleeping soundly again - hooray!

During these long dark winter nights, in our temperate climate, I believe our bodies need - expect! - more time in bed and asleep than in the summer months.  It’s essential support for our circadian and seasonal rhythms.

When you live real life with a family, things (all kinds of things!) come up and throw sleep out of whack once in a while.

For the most part this season, my family has been pretty well-rested and getting great long nights of sleep most of the time.

And yours can too.

It’s not random good luck - it’s by design.

I use simple, easy little habits to nourish and support our nervous systems and personal rhythms, so that our bodies and brains are totally ready for sleep in the evening.  I do this with all my clients, and it's different for every family.

Evening candle-light, amber lightbulbs, dimming and ditching the devices after dinner, sauna, reading together, sharing gratitudes, magnesium and my favorite hemp extract are a few of those restful habits.  And YES they fit into real lives, with all our wacky ups and downs.

And the most powerful thing I do to support my family’s sleep? (and awesome well-rested days?)

I nurture and heal our guts!

  • simple, easy food

  • tiny rest and digest habits that fit in our everyday routines

  • weeding out trouble-makers and boosting up happy healthy microbes with personalized protocols based on science, clinical evidence and experience

Reset and restore your family’s guts.

So you can all sleep well and wake up happy.
