Halloween is coming.... Trick or Treat?!?

We are getting ready for Halloween!

A fun holiday featuring candy, candy, candy.

Hmmmm... extended controversial pandemic... time to trash our children's immune systems with vitamin D- & C-depleting sugary junk?

Here are a few options so you're still the BEST house to trick-or-treat at:

1.  Non-food toys & musical prizes!

2.  Treats that have no sugar!

Zollipops (and taffy) probably have some questionable ingredients, but I'm rolling with it because it's an important holiday!

Evolved chocolates (scroll down for keto/no sugar) seasonal pumpkin spice KETO cups - for special friends. And for me ;)

How to do Halloween with your child and not get knocked out by sugar?

Nurture yourself, have your supplements ready, and tell your child what sugar does to their bodies!

Creating a safe environment for kids to know the facts, make a decision, and take responsibility for the result can be very powerful!

You can support their curiosity, intelligence, independence and leadership by giving them informed choices within your loving, judgement-free care.

We've been discussing and he's been experimenting with the Halloween sugar-scene for years.

This year my son proposed:

1.  eating one or two pieces of candy on Halloween (Ambitious!  I'll let you know what happens.).

2.  giving the rest to his friends at school the next day - "I don't want to eat it and my friends will LOVE it!" he said happily.

I'm proud of him for figuring out a win-win!  (LOL - kind of?)

We also went to the pumpkin patch, and that got me thinking about what to put in our big basket of halloween treats.

We're pretty careful about what we put in our own bodies, and are careful what we feed other kids, too!  AND we of course want all the trick-or-treaters to be delighted with their treats!

There are definitely some awesome low/no sugar treat options that aren't too frightening (with spooky chemical ingredients) - like Xylitol lollies, Smartsweets gummy bears & swedish fish, and Lily's peanut butter cups (peanuts!)... but they can get expensive, and everyone's getting a ton of candy anyway.

So over the past couple of years, we've been handing out little toys!   (Yes, I'm trading sugar for plastic trash.)

Kids actually LOVE this... even in the rain, we get an average of 200 trick or treaters, so you can trust my data!  Consider these favorites:

  • dracula teeth

  • bird and dinosaur gliders

  • mini skateboards

  • colorful harmonicas and kazoos

  • little yo-yos

  • spider rings

  • bird whistles

  • mini skeletons

  • even a few sets of drumsticks!

Here are a few toys from last year:

You've got plenty of time to put together a super fun basket of treats... that doesn't involve tons of sugar, spooky ingredients, or the scary candy aftermath of November 1rst.  (I'll be sharing my favorite supplements to make November 1rst a little easier, so look out for my email this week.)

What will you give out to the trick or treaters this year???

Let me know!  Send pictures so I can share!
